The Nautilus, Inc. survey, powered by Survey Sampling International, questioned 2,600 men and women ages 18 and older in May 2016 — including participants in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S. The survey examined general consumer understanding of health, nutrition and fitness topics.

While Americans scored slightly higher among survey participants, the national U.S. average score (42 percent) did not change from 2015 to 2016. In addition, this year’s survey took a closer look at several Western European countries, revealing average failing scores overall:
